These instrumental pieces originated from a way of working which was unusual for me: over a few days, I'd sat down and dashed these off as sketches for the purpose of returning to them later in order to flesh-out their compositions as songs or to strip-down their parts for music beds beneath narrations of prose. Hence, their simple simplistic forms.
A couple days after I had completed the tenth (with the goal of ten sketches in mind), my computer catastrophically crashed, and a week later, the replacement I ordered arrived, but it wasn't until a week thereafter that I had finally installed the OS and pertinent software and plug-ins essential for music production. At that point, I realized that the previous configuration (which I did have backed-up, but opted not to reinstate) under which these sketches had been produced might not be possible anymore, and therefore neither might the possiblity of picking-up where I'd left-off.
Meanwhile, I had been enjoying listening to these things while riding public transportation, and found the now-impossible mixes satisfactory as they were. Since they suggested to me not only "soundtracky" music but also a movie scenario in my mind, and because I felt that they should be lent some context, I decided to collect them as "Music for That Movie" – which narrowly won over "Survivors of the Crash." I think it would be cool to find a filmmaker who'd make a film to go along with this collection, but those people still expect to be paid, so imagination will have to suffice.
