THE LONELY

We eat alone in our cars,
and meet others only in bars,
and compare ourselves to the stars
whose everything's better than ours.

We are only what we possess,
and feel lonely 'til we confess,
and our lives wouldn't be such a mess
if we'd clear-out the clutter for less.

We give in order to take,
refuse to learn from mistakes,
can't tell authentic from fake
nor what difference it would make.

We're uneasy when not entertained;
our conversations are strained,
and even our pleasure is feigned –
we feel only how we've been trained.

We're The Lonely.
