One night it had awakened you from within a frightful dream,
frozen for a moment between fear and shame;
its eyes had glared at you with their metallic gleam,
and then it backed-away in the direction that it came.

The next afternoon it was just another anecdote
that you recounted as though you didn’t care,
but you’ve felt it following you, and you take note
of its scent preceding your arrival everywhere.

Tonight, it may come again and scare you when it wakes you;
I myself awoke last night to feel its breath of fire
as it announced its frenzied plans for when it takes you.
Be as cordial as you can with your monster, my desre.
